About the Teacher: Smt. Diptiben Vyas holds more than 30 years of experience in tailoring and embroidery. She learned the craft from Grade 5 in Shri Kadvibai Virani School, Rajkot and Shri Putalibai Trust, Rajkot . She holds a degree in Home Science from MVM College, Rajkot.

About the course: Stitching is the basic skill that transforms the preconceived idea, which is expressed as ‘design’ into its practical usable form of ‘garment’ or a ‘style’. Sewing is used in garment making and also in a variety of crafts and industries which include upholstery, furnishing and sports goods. This course will prepare women to make fashionable everyday garments. After course completion they can become home tailors or work in a stitching unit.

Syllabus

  • Selection of design & fabric
  • Understanding the fabric (Fall, shrinkage, warp & weft, bias etc)
  • How to take measurements
  • Creating paper patterns
  • Layout of the paper pattern on fabric and cutting it
  • Understanding the basics of a sewing machine
  • Stitching the garment
  • Finishing of the garment
  • Presentation of finished garment

Types Of Garments: Different types of Kurtas, Salwars, Petticoat, Chaniyas

Types of garment: 1. Chaniya and petticoat 2. Kurta 3. Salwar and 4 th garment will be decide after seeing the capacity and interest of students. Basic neck lines and sleeves will be covered. The focus will be on achieving perfect finishing of garment.
